$3036-$4069/MO.,THE MERCED IRRIGATION DISTRICT IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR AN ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN IN ACCOUNTS PAYABLE. COMPUTER LITERATE AND PROFICIENT WITH ALL MICROSOFT OFFICE PRODUCTS, ESPECIALLY EXCEL. MUST BE ABLE TO 10-KEY AND TYPE 45 WPM. TWO TO THREE YEARS OF ACCOUNTS PAYABLE, BOOKKEEPING OR ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE PREFERRED. AA DEGREE WITH ACCOUNTING CLASSES A PLUS. BI-LINGUAL ENGLISH/SPANISH A PLUS. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision of the Director of Finance, responsible for processing and maintenance of financial data and statistical records.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Perform account reconciliations
Draft and enter journal entries
Create and update Excel spreadsheets
Analyze and review expense reports
Support various other functions within the Finance Department such as Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and maintain the General Ledger
Interact with co-workers, customers and venders on a daily basis
Compose official correspondence in a professional manner
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements
Assist with the monthly close process and reporting of results
Perform various administrative duties as assigned such as typing, filing, copying, answering telephones, etc.
Assist with the annual audit process
Perform other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of accounting
Modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment
Computer systems and applications including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher)

Ability to:
Operate a computer using the Microsoft Office Suite
Understand and maintain financial and statistical records
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of performing the daily work function
Operate a typewriter, 10-key, copier and other common office machines

EXPERIENCE:
Three to five years of responsible and specialized bookkeeping, accounting or business experience with an emphasis in financial and statistical record keeping. Two to three years of accounts payable, bookeeping or accounting experience preferred.

EDUCATION:
Possession of a high school diploma or GED Certificate. AA degree with college-level accounting coursework preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS
Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Communicates orally and in writing with District management, co-workers, and the public in face-to-face, and one-to-one settings.

Regularly uses a telephone and/or radio for communications.

Uses offices equipment such as computer terminals, copiers, mailing equipment, calculators and fax machines.

Sits for extended periods of time.

Hearing and vision within normal limits.
